Forced to pay full for glasses after being told that medical aid would cover most of it.

I went to Spec-Savers in Centurion Mall for an annual eye test at the end of January 2019. I told the optician I wasn't happy with the contact lenses I've been trying out for the previous few months and recommended that I use glasses again.

One of the front desk staff assisted me to look at new frames which I did and asked for a quote after speaking to my medical aid to find out my portion to pay. She sent me a quote a few days later which shows the medical aid would pay for the majority of the bill and I accepted based on this and collected the glasses about a week after that.

I now find out that I'm responsible for the entire bill as medical aid only pays for contact lenses or glasses which I was not aware of. I still do not know how this was possible as checks were supposed to have been done. I've asked for an explanation and received none to date.

I never want to be in this position again and urge others to be very cautious when dealing with Spec-Savers as they have made an error with processing my claim but cannot admit it or take any steps to rectify it.

Hi, thanks for your reply.  The store I'm referring to is on the lower level.

Hats off to Evan from Specsavers Centurion Mall.  He really sets the standard for outstanding customer service!

He, unfortunately, could not get to how the incorrect information was sent by my medical aid (TBMS) and agreed to write off the debt which I'm grateful for.

I hope steps are put into place to mitigate issues like this from re-occurring, especially when dealing with TBMS.
