False Service

I went in March to Spec savers (Parow Centre) to make use of my Optical benefit. I asked them if there is any co-payments based on the packages available according to the Primary Care option, they said No.

I did my eye test, upon choosing a frame from the few we can select from, the assistant advises me that I have to pay a co-payment of R299-00 for anti-scratch. I advised I dont want any add ons, I dont want anti-scratch, I just want a pair of glasses that is covered by my medical aid entirely.

After not proceeding with spec savers, I contacted Discovery and they advised that I can use that eye test and go to any other optometrist that has the package for Discvoery Primary Care available and just choose a frame from there, I cannot go for another eye test.

Understood, that is fair.

My eye test account was only submitted from Spec Savers on at the end of May, to find out they submitted it for the wrong amount and my account was resubmitted. I only received a copy of my eye test end of June!

Okay, So now I take my eye test, and I go to Neo-Vision (Parow Centre), they say they will use my eye test and just submit separate codes for my frames, I say Ok,

Neo Vision comes back to me now and says that I only have a R250 left on Discovery for my optical benefit and I must pay in an extra R300.00. I didnt even know there is a financial allocation, I've always been instructed there is a specific package that I qualify for, why come to me with figures.....

Where and how does such a simple procedure end up being so complicated.

Spec Savers first say no co-payments, I get co-payments (2months to submit an account) Neo-Vision says its fine, they wont charge for eye test and will just submit account to my Medical Aid for the frame from my package. Discovery says I have a optical benefit where I can get a package deal for eye tests and frames.

I am now very disgruntled, I cannot see properly, Im getting headaches, Im sitting with an eye test but cannot get a frame, im having to pay co-payments for something that should be included in my Medical Aid option.

Please please please help!!! Desperately just want to wear glasses.
