I came across this complaint as we went through the same senario.

We started working for SPE Security Durban, we constantly asked for our contracts as they kept giving us excuses. After two weeks working for them we came across videos on the managers phone how the assault a guard and swearing at them. Their uniforms are in such poor condition, they might as well walk without shoes! We could not believe what we saw in those two weeks, we then decided to give resignation as immediate effect, we did not receive any payment , we have send mails but never responded.

Cannot believe there are still companys out there taht operates like that!!

Victoria Hospital Guards Ill-treated

Mbali Khubisa

Three security guards, employed by SPE Security, based at Victoria Hospital have accused their employer of unfair labour practises, empty promises of permanent employment and ******** deductions in their salaries.
Having been a guard for the company since March, a breadwinner who preferred to remain anonymous fearing that he might lose his job told Makhulu News he was promised to be employed on contract after three months, instead he receives a Remittance Voucher as his payslip every month.
What also infuriated these guards even more is that they have recently discovered that one of their fellow guards who was employed in July is now permanent and earning a higher salary.
Despite approaching Victoria Hospital for assistance with their concerns, the guards claimed that they are not willing to pay heed to their gripes.
Meanwhile other guards have opted to remain silent about how they are treated by their manager after one guard was recently fired for reporting their complaints to the Victoria Hospital management.
“It seems like no one is willing to listen to us. Often we are forced to work double or even triple shifts, hoping for a better salary but in return we are exploited by our manager and our monies are deducted.”
He added that when they query why their salaries are cut, their manager doesn’t even bother to respond to their queries, instead he threatens to send them for a hearing in Durban, accusing them of being disobedient.
“We work in fear not knowing who will be fired next, we need someone who will fight on our behalf. We execute our duties accordingly and we abide by the rules of the agency but we are treated badly,” said one guard.
Another guard alleged that they are expected to work continuously without rest (from 6am to 6pm) and if caught resting or sitting, they are shouted at and belittled even in the presence of the public.
This matter has raised questions from locals who want to know why an outside security company was given the contract to work at this hospital in the first place, instead of employing local security companies.
When reached for a comment SPE Security manager at Victoria Hospital Leon Friedlander dismissed the allegations and said one of the guards in questions has been dismissed as he was causing a problem between the company and their client, (Victoria Hospital).
He alleged that the guard was only employed as a temporary guard and has been demanding a permanent position. “All I can say is that I know the security guard who is behind this and he is just trying to cause problems,” said Friedlander
