Vorna Valley Spar, our resident disgrace.

The spar in the Vorna Valley shopping centre now only offers pensioners a discount on Tuesday. The last Tuesday I took my mother was at 5pm and we were told the discount is over for the day. Today I took my mother again and requested the discount. We waited at the till for almost 10 minutes before the manager arrived to address my concerns that other spars offer the discount 7 days a week and why if they only provide it on Tuesdays is it over past 5pm? Not only was he belligerent but argued that his boss owned 15 stores and all of them offer the discount on Tuesdays only. He denied that it ends past 5pm on Tuesdays even when I explained my mother was denied. Now, she spends all her grocery money at this spar and like many other pensioners, they are seriously taken advantage of here. The manager even seemed proud that all 15 stores do this. The discount in reality doesn't add up to much, it's rather pathetic that our elderly are not given better options, but for many of them its the idea or principle behind it. However there is a pick n pay, checkers and other stores very close, so I will be taking away her business from the Vorna Valley spar and encourage all senior patrons, and their families to do the same. Over and above this, their bakery staff are very rude when asked for fresh items, sometimes they dance and sing ululating in the isles preventing you pushing a trolly through and when asked to move over you get a dirty look and some tongue clicking. Over all, we should have made the move ages ago, but if anyone is expecting good service, discounts for our elderly and efficient staff, rather take your money elsewhere in this economy. It's time we stopped accepting the " take it or leave it" attitude from these retailers, like the Vorna Vally spar, and take our business to places where we the customer are actually valued. Side note: I know pick n pay have having some troubles and stores are closing...don't think that your turn isn't around the corner Vorna Valley spar.
