My nieces had a terrible experience at Spar golden gate on wick street in Verulam KZN. They showed total disregard for the dignity of 4 young innocent girls (minors). The girls were aged between 10 & 14 years old. On the 29th April 2021 the girls went to the store to purchase goods. They were harassed by a spar employee (adult male) and being vulnerable they tried moving away but the employee continued following them. The ordeal of the girls did not end there. As they left the shop they were accosted by the guard who without explanation walked them outside the store to the despatch section and had them body searched in full view of pedestrians, other security personnel, and SPar employees. The girls didn't object as they did not know what was happening till it happened. They were left extremely traumatized and humiliated by the guard violation their bodies without their consent that they can't eat or sleep. The girls were not given an explanation as to why they were searched, neither were their parents notified nor were they given an apology when nothing was found on them. When a member of the public told the guard that they were not allowed to touch the girls without their parents the guard just ignored him and walked away. This is a total violation of human rights and spar management are trying to sweep this under the mat. In this time when women and children are being victimized we get a major chain store show blatant disregard for protocol of a search and violating children legal right. Spar need to answer for this.
