MY WIFE AND I ARE VERY REGULAR VISITORS TO SPAR STORES, ALMOST ON A DAILY BASIS.WE HAVE NEVER IN THE PAST BEEN TREATED THIS BADLY BY A VERY RUDE, LOUDMOUTH, ARROGANT AND BOMBASTIC STAFF MEMBER

BACKGROUND -I visited SPAR ‘’DIE BOORD’’ IN STELLENBOSCH ON THURSDAY 26TH JANUARY AROUND 13H00 -spar advertised Huggies nappies on special for R129.99 -I looked for the same item as in the advert but it was not on shelf -your shelfpakker lady offered to assist and I followed her to the managers kiosk -upon arrival a certain MR MALAN came to me and I then showed him the advert and asked if he can help me with this product -IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT PROVOCATION—HE VERY LOUDLY SAID THEY DON’T HAVE STOCK AND THAT IF I HAVE A PROBLEM I MUST CALL SPAR HEADOFFICE -I then said that I am ‘’his’’ customer and he JUST KEPT ON SAYING ITS NOT HIS FAULT AND I MUST CALL THE HEAD OFFICE -I then said, ok, he must get spar managing director on the line for me, AT WHICH HE SMIRKED,AND JUST SAID I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET HOLD OF HIM

-THEN HE SUDDENDLY STARTED SAYING WITHOUT STOPPING OR GIVING ME CHANCE TO SPEAK THE FOLLOWING: -‘’JA, ONS IS ALWEER DIE VARK IN DIE VERHAAL’’---AGAIN WE ARE THE ***S IN THE STORY -HE PROBABLY SAID THIS ABOUT 10 TIMES, EXTEREMELY LOUDLY/BOMBASTICALY DIRECTLY INTO MY FACE, ALL THE STAFF IN THE KIOSK COULD CLEARY HEAR AND EVEN A FEW PASSING CUSTOMERS LOOKED -I then said to that he is not giving me a chance to speak, his SNAPPY ANSWER WAS ‘’I AM NOT GIVING HIM A CHANCE TO SPEAK’’ -I then said ok, please speak –HE THEN AGAIN JUST SAID ‘’ONS IS WEER DIE VARK IN DIE VERHAAL’’ -I then asked for his name and –HE PUSHED HIS CHEST OUT INTO MY FACE TO SHOW HIS NAME TAG AND LOUDLY SAID ‘’MR MALAN’’ -I asked for a piece of paper and he then said—LOUDLY AGAIN—SO YOU PROBABLY ALSO WANT A PEN NOW -I wrote down his name and proceeded to tell him that I am taking this further-HE JUST AGAIN SAID LOUDLY’’WE ARE AGAIN THS *** IN THIS STORY’’REPATING THIS A FEW TIMES -I SAID THAT I WILL ALSO BE TAKING THIS INCIDENT AND THE ADVERT TO RADIO, cape talk 567 with WENY KNOWLER -HE THENSAID.WELL,LUCKILY HE HAS WITNESESS, upon which I answered saying that hopefully everything is also recorded

SUMMARY -as a very loyal supporter of spar for years, I felt very embarrassed and ashamed to be treated the way MALAN treated me -ALL HE SHOULD HAVE DONE, IF HE IN ANY WAY CARED ABOUT SPARS LOYAL CUSTOMER CARE WAS TO SAY—‘’sir, I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience, could you please let me have your contact details and I will investigate and promise to come back to you early next week with feedback’’ -BUT INSTEAD , HE AGGRESIVELY DROVE HIS POINT HOME WITH A REALLY ‘’GO TO HELL TYPE OF ATTITUDE’’. HUFFING AND PUFFING ALL THE TIME—‘’ONS IS AL WEER DIE VARK IN DIE VERHAAL’’ -sadly, my family will now be moving most of our purchases to another retailer. I know MR MALAN WULD PROBABLY SAY ‘’GOOD RIDDANCE’’ - HOWEVER, I FEEL IT IMPORTANT TO BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DIRECTORS AS THE SPAR BRAND GENERALLY HAS A GOOD IMAGE OUT THERE, BUT PEOPLE LIKE MR MALAN ARE CAUSING IT MUCH UN NEEDED DAMAGE
