Spar Rosemead Avenue, Disrespectful Front Line Staff

I went weekly shopping on Sunday 5 August at 09H30 at Spar Rosemead Avenue.

I prefer this branch for their warm and helpful store packers, friendly car guard and store cleanliness. This morning was a totally different story.

I had taken an ice creams out the freezers, when I got to the till I noticed the stick pierced through the ice cream packet. I had asked a lady, Michelle who seemed to be the front line supervisor or manager if she could likely exchange this one for me as I continue to unpack my goodies out the trolley. Michelle refuses and advises my cashier to do it. Michelle then removes the ice cream from my hand. I go to Michelle again, as she was standing at another cashier and I kindly ask HER to exchange it, as I am in a hurry to pay and leave and my cashier is still busy ringing up my goodies. Michelle ignored, and still refuses to assist me.

My third encounter with Michelle was when my cashier was almost at the end, I went to Michelle to ask her why she had not exchanged the ice cream. Michelle then handed me the ice cream back and says to me ‘If I am taking so long, then you go fetch yourself another one’. I try handing the ice cream back explaining that it’s her job as a staff member of Spar. Michelle then continued to make clicking sounds with her mouth in disagreement. Michelle refused take the ice cream while I handed it back to her, so I had thrown it on the counter.

I was prepared to leave without it. I felt utterly disrespected as I stood as a fool at the till.

Michelle sent some guy with the replacement ice cream, this guy was not in uniform and could have been storeroom staff. This polite guy handed me the ice cream.

As I turned around to Michelle she had given me the most aggressive look and turn her head. I had never felt so uneasy while making my card payment.

How is it that Spar Rosemead has such an utterly disrespectful front line staff member dealing with customers???? I guarantee you that there is better service at a flea market or corner shop that the ‘Friendly Spar’.

Michelle’s refusal to assist me after requesting THREE times, her attitude and then raising her voice at me while advising me to go fetch my own replacement, her making clicking sounds with her mouth toward me then her aggressive looks. This has all been enough to put me off from shopping at this store!

There is always a friendly, light of complexion store manager in the booth, today is his off day. I feel as if he would have had control of the situation and it would have never gotten this out of control.
