Spar Heidelburg

Writing this short letter after an extremely appalling customer service received at Spar Heidelberg CBD in Voortrekker Street last night. As we planned to a small family braai, decided to top up the meat [chicken drumsticks] to accommodate us all; so we went to Spar Heidelberg. Bought some snacks and 4 X 2 packs of drumsticks - as frequent patrons, all was well till we got home to open the chicken drumsticks and, woah... An indescribable rotten smell making you instantly vomit.

We drove back to Spar Heidelberg, which is by the way, 18 kilometers return trip. As we get there, a lady who was standing by the manager's stand asked she can help? I gave her the plastic which had the rotten drum sticks; as she opened it, her face turned in disgust. No apology from her whatsoever as she 'so do you want a refund or exchange.?' I asked her if she's really serious addressing me like as a frequent customer? In my reply I asked to please call her manager and get me my petrol refund - better yet, I'll take 4 X 2 packs of drum sticks at about a mere R32.00 which is the exchange and my petrol.

It spiraled down to an argument as now another guy who apparently seemed to be an assistant manager told me that it was impossible for the meat to be rotten as it was packed on Friday 2nd January 2026. Continued to say they are not fully responsible of goods brought to Spar but yes can sell to customers. Where in retail does you not take responsibility and blame suppliers and merchandizers for shelving rotten food?

In shock of raw, ********* treatment, we paid for another pack and replaced the rotten 1 and went home in unraveled sore hearts. We sincerely ask that you intervene for the sake of the next patron to walk in the Spar Heidelberg
