Spar Elardus Park Complaint
On Sunday, I visited the store and spent approximately 45 minutes shopping. Many items were marked down on the shelves as part of the SPAR Rewards promotions, and as a rewards card holder, I expected to receive the advertised discounts at checkout. However, upon reaching the pay point, the cashier informed me that there was a system issue and that the store could not provide the discounted prices. This was highly disappointing and unacceptable. Customers should never be disadvantaged or penalised due to internal or system-related issues. Instead of simply refusing the discounts, the store could have implemented a reasonable workaround—such as applying a total manual discount of 5% or 10%—to compensate for the failure of the rewards system or inform clients at the door that there is a system problem and the prices on the shelf will not apply, Even the manager acknowledged the problem, pointing to several full trolleys abandoned by frustrated customers. This reflects poorly on the store’s customer service and operational management. I am certain that SPAR lost a significant amount of business as a result. I request that SPAR review this incident and provide feedback regarding how such situations will be prevented in the future. Customers should be able to trust that the prices displayed on shelves and the benefits of the SPAR Rewards program will be honored, regardless of system outages.
