Spar dobsonville teller with the supervisor's aid tried to ***** my R50.50

I am utterly disgusted at the treatment I received at Spar Dobsonville mall today. Everything I bought cost a total of R63.50 and I used R114 to pay. I paid with a hundred rands note, two R5 coins and two R2 coins and was therefore supposed to be given R50 change. To my dismay the teller Thandeka H refused to give me my change, claiming that I only gave her R64.00 therefore what is due to me is 40cents. I started quarreling with her hoping that she would rectify her error but that was not fruitful. At some point the supervisor stepped in only to exercise what to me was seen as malpractice. He together with the cashier Thandeka took the cash register to some secret room, they returned after a few minutes claiming that the amount in the till balances, there by dismissing my claim.

Why was there no transparency in this procedure, why was I not included in this verification procedure? This is bad leadership from the supervisor and a disgusting way to treat customers as he presumed that I was being dishonest? Is this the manner in which Spar supervisors were trained to treat customers? Not being neutral?

Be that as it may I furthermore requested for the supervisor to view the cameras as I noticed a camera over the till. Yet again to my dismay my request was not honored. I was told that the camera operator had already knocked off for the day.I was told to rather return on the following day (9 October 2022). Seeing how this was carried without transparency, with bias towards the teller and no value towards me as a customer I do fear that these people may come back to me and claim that there was a camera malfunction around the time of my transaction. I am not satisfied with how my matter was handled.

OTHER UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR NOTED: 1. Supervisor refused to give us his surname 2. One of the security guards had a bad attitude as we re-entered the store. 3. As we were resolving the security dispute the supervisor addressed us with a bad attitude asking us if we wanted to be helped or not. 4. The supervisor kept telling us that we were not the first to go through this. Which shows that he does not prioritise customer issues, proudly. 5. Seeing that Themba claimed to be a supervisor, why does he not have access to cameras? 6. None of the staff members showed remorse in this situation, no intention to handle me as fair as everyone deserves to be. 7. I was forced to leave the store without my money.

I need intervention on this matter and my request is for spar to closely monitor their franchises to ensure that fairness is always prioritized and maintained by senior staff members. It is my honest opinion that it looks like the spar dobsonville teller with the supervisor's aid was attempting to ***** my R50.50.

Reviewer Update
Thanks to for getting back to us. As per the previous communication we returned to the store on 09 October 2022. We were allowed to have a conversation with the store manager Phil Lu****, who was very professional and remorseful about our experience. We are very happy with how Mr Lu**** handled our matter, he requested the supervisor on duty to organize the refund. We were informed that we will be informed on the outcome of the investigation and sure enough today (10 October 2022) we received a call that cleared and verified our claim. We are overall happy with the outcome of this matter in the end. Thanks to spar for taking our matter seriously.

Kind regards
