Spar Benoni - Poor service
Hi,
This isn't always the nicest of mails to write but i feel it needs to be heard. On Saturday the 25th of January 2020, i visited the Benoni Spar in East Rand to buy a few pieces of meat ( steak and lamb ).
After checking the packaged items, i couldn't see that there was anything wrong with the meat. I know how to preserve meat especially if it's not to be cooked / used in the day or two after purchase ( placing it in a fridge or deep freezer can help this ).
On Sunday, the 26th of January 2020, we started to prepare for lunch and once we opened the lamb chops package, the stench and smell that came from the meat was horrible. And sadly, at this stage, we find ourselves having to fight off so many diseases that come from vrot / off meat. And here was another case. Who knows what we eating from Benoni Spar is actually checked for being safe to consume? Firstly, when i returned to Spar on Sunday afternoon to complain, i wasn't met by a manager of the store, and it was rather a hush hush matter as all i was told was 'they're sorry for the inconvenience and they will proceed with a refund'. Thats it! For almost having me eat decomposed meat, i get a refund and i must go about my day.
Secondly, when i was leaving the store, i politely mentioned to the cashier that helped me that if this is the meat on the shelf, i suggested they go remove the other meat and have it checked. It was at this point the cashier told me that management had already spoken to the manager of the butcher as a number of customers had returned the meat from that specific packaging.
I've been a long standing customer of SPAR franchises and sad to say, the Benoni shop and management of the store isn't to the standard i'm used to and im sure alot of other individuals aren't used to either.I've got photo evidence of the meat as well as the slip showing that it was purchased days before sell by date and the day after having bought it, its already off. I hope this can lead to affirmative action being taken, as management is put in place to manage not to turn a blind eye when a customer has been affected.
A refund isn't a suitable apology or a way of showing your concern.
