Poor customer Service, Harassment, Body Shaming,Workplace Threat

On the 27/09/2023 around 17:30, I visited Kwik Spar in Butterworth with the intentions of buying electricity for which a receipt is attached. Upon arriving at KIOSK I noticed that a gentleman I later know as Derrick was having a conversation with the lady behind the counter, the lady that was going to help me in purchasing the voucher. Just because I was not going to interrupt their conversation I just handed the receipt to the lady(Old Slip) I use to purchase the eletricity. Normally my slip needs explaining when buying because it is not registered at Eskom.I could not explain my buying because Derrick and the lady were in serious conversation in so much that the lady could not successfully do the transaction. Upon her failing she then shifted her attention to the transaction saying that the electricity is declining I should go and buy somewhere else. I then began explaining my slip buying method, she continued to process the transaction.

Then the argument started as to why did I not explain my slip from the start from Derrick. I explain that to me it would have been rude of me to interject in their conversation and interrupt them. I explained I expected the lady to seek excuse from Derrick herself and concentrate on me. Derrick then began to argue that I should not say rude but use the Xhosa version of the word (Krwada) for which I retorted I wouldn't be told what word to use between rude and Krwada as they according to me mean the same thing. Derrick then began to raise his voice in an intimidating manner. I told him real men don't behave or yellow at helpless women. I guess that further infuriated him and I walked away. On my way out he made remarked about how my buttocks are skewed. He yelled all derogatory remarks everybody in the shop was watching in ussmay as he is a man, a manager or someone who is supposed to nurture, protect and cherish customers. I felt so humiliated ashamed and scared to such an extent that the only thing I did on my way to the exit door was raising my middle finger to him. I did that to deter him from continuing what he was doing.

Fast forward to the next day the 28th of September 2023. Derrick arrived at my workplace (Capitec Bank Fingoland Mall). He came asking for a bank manager which happens to be myself. He got loud asking my colleagues is this the manager and I pretended not to hear his remark and continued with what I was busy with, he greeted me and I greeted back and he started yelling at me saying this thing is a manger.

He shouted saying that he wished tha he arrived at the time the bank was full as he wanted to humilate me even more as he got a clear understanding of the middle finger meaning and he went on insulting me about my private parts. Everybody in the bank(colleagues) was listening, scared. He threatened that whenever he has a chance he will come at my workplace and hurl insults. I am so scared, embarrassed and hurt. I am requesting that whoever has the power to deal with Derrick do that. I felt I should escalate the matter to your attention first and see how you handle it. If I don't feel satisfied I will seek other avenues.
