Parklands spar does not accept 5c pieces.

Bought a doughnut for R2,99 paid with a R2 coin, a 50c piece, two twenty cent pieces and two 5c pieces. The cashier handed the two 5c pieces back to me and informed me that they did not accept 5c pieces, whereupon I told her she cannot refuse to accept legal tender, she then told me to give her a 10c piece, I refused and asked for the manager.

I explained the problem and she gave me the same answer as the cashier, I then asked her to give me my money back and they could keep the doughnut, she refused and insisted that I then take the doughnut for R2.80 and forget about the 10c, this went back and forth a few times without any end in sight. I eventually accepted the doughnut for R2,80 and told her I would not be doing any shopping at that Spar forthwith.

I have never had this problem anywhere else ever and believe Spar have dropped the ball as far as the customer is concerned. If the cashier had politely informed me in the beginning that they no longer accepted 5c pieces but they would give me the doughnut for R2,80, I would have accepted that and moved on.
