Off food being sold

Spar Vyfhoek Potchefstroom - ANOTHER RED FLAG

I don’t even know where to start with this spar. I guess all that’s left to say is, disappointed but not surprised.

I purchased chicken breasts from them on the 27th of November 2022. This pack was labelled that it was packaged on the 26th of November, and its sell by date was the 1st of December 2022.

On the 29th of November 2022, I opened the fridge and got the most putrid smell coming from it. Upon investigation, it was the chicken causing the smell. I assumed it was merely the packaging, therefore attempted to cook the chicken - to which the smell only worsened.

This ultimately resulted in me having to throw it all out, as there was no way that it was safe for consumption.

Tonight, on the 30th of November 2022, I walked to the spar to show them these pictures of the chicken, and explained the issue to an employee, who then went to go tell the manager. The manager did not even come out in person, and I was told to bring the chicken back to the spar, but that they would be closing now. Even after telling them I threw it away, and showing them evidence of such, they demand that the foul chicken be brought back before they will assist.

I am not too sure how this falls into customer service, being told to go dig through trash for off chicken that should not have been sold in the first place.

Worst of all this is far from the first issue I’ve had with this spar, honestly disappointing and a waste of money to shop here.
