Milk expired before the expiry date

On the 1st of November I purchased a 1 litre c***** full cream fresh milk. The expiry date was the 9th of November. I opened the milk on the 2nd of November. The milk tasted sour-ish. Today I poured the milk over my cereal and the milk separated. It appears as if their fridge doesn't cool well or it's broken.
