Glen Acres SPAR fails to accommodate disabled customer

I am writing this review of behalf of my father because he had such a bad experience with the SPAR at Glen Acres, Kempton Park.

He arrived at Glen Acres and went to SPAR to request a wheelchair for my brother who has Cerebral Palsy, so they could take him to open an account at Nedbank. Knowing my parents, they would have also went into the SPAR after they were done at the bank. To their surprise, the response was “NO, we can't help you”. On their way out an employee told them that the store has 2 wheelchairs, and did not understand why the store simply dismissed their request.

They ended up having to go to Dischem, which is on the other side, to request a wheelchair. Dischem did not hesitate but simply offered it to them.The bank doors closed immediately after they entered.

He just wants to express that SPAR has lost a customer as he will not be visiting that SPAR anymore. This is sad as a few weeks ago, the same brother of mine, who was denied a chair, turned 18 years. He was given options as to where he wants us to buy his cake, and he chose the same SPAR that later turns around and does this.

From my side, you need to improve in terms of customer service. You also need to understand that not all your customers are able bodied. It seems to me that the wheelchairs are simply there for aesthetic, and not to be used. I was not there, but I share his frustration.
