Expired Products

On the 18/01/2023 I purchased a 2 litre container of Dutch Windmill frozen yogurt from your Knowles Spar outlet in Pinetown KZN and was horrified to discover that the product had expired more than four months ago since the 8/9/2022. The irony of this experience is that the expired product was purchased from your Knowles Spar branch voted number one in KZN located directly outside your regional head offices in Chancery Lane Pinetown. A product that expired more than four months ago thats like nearly half the year could cause serious health issues and there are children that could have eaten these products which would have had serious implications on one's health such as food poisoning or even resulting in the risk of someone dying as a result of consuming way outdated products. Surely someone gets paid to ensure quality products reach customers so it's either someone did not do their job properly or Spar is intent on selling expired goods to its customers to ensure old stock is rid of at the expense of the unsuspecting consumer who is exposed to these health hazards. This is not the first time we bought expired products from Spar. Once we purchased a tray of eggs that was expired from your Phoenix branch and when we went back the manager refused to exchange it. Twice we bought expired Pepsi soft drinks from your Chelsea Spar branch in Pinetown only to discover it was expired when we got home. Now are we expected to go back to your Knowles Spar branch incurring fuel costs to rectify your mistakes in ensuring Spar does not sell expired products, mistakes that could cost someone their life as a result of products that carry a risk of contamination? When you shop at Spar as a customer you have an expectation that they will deliver the best. It's about trust. Not that you have to look at the expiry date of each product you buy because a reputable giant in the supply chain environment like Spar surely operates by standard. How is it that an outlet voted number one in KZN located directly outside your regional head offices sells products not suitable for human consumption nearly half the year passed its sell by date? The bar code on the product will surely attest to this product being from the shelves of Spar and I am in possession of the till slip. Would I as a customer want this happening to someone else worst of all condoning the risk of someone's child becoming sick or dying as a result of contaminated products from an outlet that carries a reputation as being voted number one? My wife emailed Spar who didn't bother to respond indicating to us that we are just a number and that our business means nothing to a brand that rakes in hundreds of millions of rands in revenue as a result of the multitudes of people like me. We do not seek compensation of any sort but just wanted feedback and even failed to get that. Perhaps I should take to social media to share my experiences and find out how many others purchased this expired frozen yogurt risking their lives and that of their families at the expense of a brand seeking to make a profit of unsuspecting consumers. How would they feel?
