Was asked by dad to take the empty bottles in, 57 of them(all bought from the exact same Tops), he's been a loyal customer to Spar and the Tops in Fourways gardens for 13 odd years...Long Story short I was shouted at, disrespected (in front of customers), the manager of TOPS even shouted to the security guard to take the bottles and go pack them outside(in the rain), and told that they will not accept the bottles. I even showed them the what google/Ai response was to the question of legalities regarding this(have posted it below). End of the day I treated as I was a piece of low life **** and tried to be made feel worthless by the Tops manager guy(big guy). I'm utterly disgusted to the point im writing this review...first time I've ever written a review on Hello Peter, but it was bad enough to make post this...I then called a nearby Liquor City, and they kindly said, "Sir, bring the bottles, we will sort it out, and pay you double!!!! So I went back collected the bottles, and took them to people who are actually worth it. Thank you Liquor City for assisting even though the the purchases were not made there! As for SPAR Tops Fourways Gardens, you guys are pathetic chance takers and ******* in essence, paying back a clients deposit when you do at half the client deposit amount, and then enforcing the deposit value as in store Credit...CPA indicates otherwise you *******! SAB needs to step in and sort something out, put them back in line. Lastly I asked them to call one of the owners being Jade/Jaide, I was told by the manager guy in the spar that he said I must come on Monday, because he cant make a decision over the phone....its returning empty bottles MY WORD. I have also reported this to SAB, and I will send a separate complaint to the SPAR Fourways garden email too, last time Ill ever be shouted down at, made feel un-wanted and disrespected like that...And yes, all your employees will group together and point a finger to protect one another from any disciplinary action and accuse me of whatever...I don't care, I know what happened, I know how I felt, and I know it was wrong, and that's all I need to know...Do with this review as you please. Here is the information I googled regarding legalities with returning of empties that I showed them as well and was not good enough(they above the law I think)....google results: In South Africa, a bottle store or retailer generally cannot force you to spend your bottle deposit refund in their store. Based on the Consumer Protection Act and general industry practice regarding returnable bottles (like Coca-Cola 2L returnables or beer quarts), the deposit is a refundable, monetary deposit, not a store credit voucher. Here is the breakdown of your rights regarding empty bottle returns: Cash Refund Requirement: Retailers are expected to refund the cash deposit when you return empty bottles that are in good, clean condition. No Mandatory Spending: They cannot legally force you to use that money to purchase other products in their store, although some may try to limit returns to credit only. Where to Return: You can return empty, branded, returnable bottles to any store that stocks and charges a deposit for that specific product, even if you did not buy them from that specific outlet. Exemptions: Some smaller outlets might not participate, but larger retailers usually have a "take-back" requirement to manage these returns. If a bottle store refuses to refund you in cash and demands you spend it there, they are likely in breach of the practices outlined in the Consumer Protection Act, which is meant to ensure consumers are treated fairly in this regard. What to do if refused: Request a Manager: Ask for a manager to explain the policy. Refer to the Policy: Inform them that suppliers have been instructed to comply with CPA regulations and return deposits. Take Your Business Elsewhere: Many retailers accept these returns; consider visiting a different store. I did and followed each step, I showed them the CPA conflict to the situation, I requested all on-site managers, and got them to call the owner, they have clearly gone against the CPA knowingly and willingly, at the Laws and client expense. What else are they doing I wonder... Ill be notifying the CPA too...Yes it was that bad of an experience! My number is ***
