I purchased a savoury bread from Mamelodi Denlyn SuperSpar on 21 March 2026, which was still within its best-before date. After eating it, I became severely ill the same day (vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhoea). The bread was later found to have a foul smell and visible green mould. The product was returned to the store on 22 March. The issue was acknowledged and a refund was eventually given, however the handling of the matter has been extremely concerning: • No formal feedback on the product testing has been provided • No apology has been issued • I was asked to complete store incident/insurance forms meant for the retailer • I was asked to sign a confidentiality clause and provide medical test results a week after the incident, which is not practical • I have made multiple follow-ups with no resolution I have suffered illness, incurred medical costs, and lost income as a result. This matter has now been escalated to SPAR Head Office and the National Consumer Commission due to the lack of response and accountability. I am requesting that SPAR urgently intervene and address this matter properly.
