Utterly Disappointed by Volkswagen Soweto – Incompetence, Broken Promises, and Complete Disregard for Customers

I wish to share my experience with VW Soweto as a caution to other consumers. In February/March, I approached VW Soweto with the intention of trading in my vehicle to purchase a second-hand Volkswagen Polo. I was assisted by a sales consultant who processed my application. When the finance application failed due to validations, I was asked for permission to share my personal details with “someone who could help.” Believing this to be an internal colleague or manager, I agreed. I was immediately contacted by an individual introduced to me as Prince Hilton, who presented himself professionally and provided documentation branded as Volkswagen paperwork, along with alternative vehicle options. At no point was it disclosed that this individual was not formally part of VW Soweto or acting within official dealership processes. My vehicle was taken for evaluation for a potential trade-in, and I received a valuation within minutes. I was then informed that there were certain “fees” that needed to be paid in order to proceed with the deal. This raised concern, and I contacted the original sales consultant to query why I was being asked to pay fees outside the dealership process. He stated that he was unsure and would “ask Prince.” At that point, I became suspicious and requested clarity on who Prince Hilton was and what his relationship was to the dealership. I was told that he was a “private banker” who assists people in getting cars—information that had not been disclosed to me at the outset. When I raised these concerns, I was met with dismissive and unprofessional conduct. I was referred to as “emotional” for reporting the matter, and I was told by a sales representative that he was “not desperate to lose his job over R5000.” I found this statement intimidating and wholly inappropriate. I formally escalated this issue in February/March. Despite numerous attempts to contact dealership management, I received no response until Volkswagen South Africa intervened. Only then did a manager contact me, summarise the matter as “the first time this has happened,” and indicate that a meeting would be arranged. To date, no such meeting has taken place, and my calls and messages to dealership management have largely gone unanswered. I am publicly asking VW Soweto to clarify: Are employees permitted to share customer personal information with external parties without full disclosure? Why was I diverted away from official dealership processes? Why has this complaint taken several months without resolution? I have been ignored, spoken to disrespectfully, and left without accountability or resolution. I am requesting the return of my money and a formal written response addressing the conduct and processes involved. I share this experience so that other consumers can make informed decisions and so that this matter is finally addressed with the seriousness it deserves.

VW Soweto is the worst ! I got a referral from someone because I already bought a car 2017 . So this time I decided to trade in , the guy was Wandile . He showed me the car I wanted and we were ready to set the deal , due to my payslip it failed validations so he asked if he can give someone my details . Since the deal failed on his side I thought he was asking his manager or colleague instead he was giving someone outside of VW my information including my ID . ( he was a white man ) i was very sure he was manager because he didn’t even introduce himself , he sent me same car from VW and VW documents he started to ask for money when I ask Wandile who this man was he says he doesn’t know him is that possible ? How do you send a clients information to a total stranger?? Yeap the manager brushed it off I did expect him to call me in with Wandile so we can resolve this he ignores my messages and calls !! As a woman I feel I was taken advantage of

If you want to stress yourself out, buy a vehicle from this dealership. We baught a vehicle from them and little did we know that the car has major problems, the manager Mxolisi Ngwepe has now decided to ignore calls and emails.
