I saw a Nissan NP 300 advertised by Southgate for R89 900. The pics looked great. It was advertised with aircon, radio, ABS and airbags. Because I live in Nelspruit, I arranged for the vehicle to be taken to the local Nissan dealer clfor a 101 point check, for which I paid about R800.

The dealer noted a few issues, most important tires which needed replacement, a good service and wheel bearings which had to be replaced. I was happy and negotiated some discount on the licencing and registration and paid R93 400 to Southgate.

The next day, just by coincidence, I zoomed in to the pictures. No Radio, No aircon, no airbags, No ABS. When I pointed it out, they said that they have appointed a new lady who made a mistake with the ad, but that they are willing to reconsider the price.

The book value of the bakkie without all those features is in the region of R 70 000 - and I paid R 93 400! After their discount I wOULD still pay R 84 900 and still would not have A/C or a radio or airbags or ABS - and I must service the car and buy tires and fix the wheel bearings. So I said no thanks.

They gave me two options - either take the bakkie as is at the discounted price or accept a refund at their terms and conditions. I asked for a refund and they agreed. At first they wanted me to wait 7 days, but eventually they paid back my moneywithin a few days- but they kept R400 - without informing me why.

So, I lost R400 plus R800 for the dealer...school fees, I know.

But, thanks Southgate for eventually refunding my money (or most of it) and offering an apology, which I galdy accep.
