No wifi in my room!!!
The room is spacious, but there is NO WIFI in my room. I am unable to connect to the wifi in my room even though I could connect in the public spaces, so I am literally sitting on a bench at the elevators typing this review since I can connect in this spot. Nobody was able to help me with this and just said they are having tech issues.
Knowing they have wifi problems, they should then at least compensate guests with data vouchers or some kind of discount on the bill, because wifi is an absolutely essential part of any hotel in 2024. Just telling me I can go sit in an uncomfortable public space for the hours I needed the wifi for tonight is NOT a solution. I paid for a room! They can and should do better.
They also have “issues” with their phones - such as room service whose phones do not work; I wasted 30 min trying to call them for an order. Eventually reception had to tell them to call me and even then the line disconnected before I could finish my order the first time.
The image quality on the TV in the room is exceptionally poor too (grainy, not clear), so it would seem their technology is at least a decade old here.
The other issue is that the rooms have no option for something lighter than a full, heavy duvet to sleep under when it is a warmer night. They should at least have a flat sheet, a thin comforter, a thinner blanket or something other than a thick, hot duvet! Yes, there is a sheet over the mattress, but I shouldn’t have to pull off the fitted sheet and sleep directly on a mattress cover just because I want to sleep under something lighter. In the end, I had to struggle to get the huge duvet out of its cover to sleep under that. (On an extra cold night there is no extra blanket in the room either).
Finally, there is also no bath mat in my bathroom to step onto when you get out of the shower. My parents’ room had one but not mine.
My first impression of the hotel (this is my first stay here) was very positive due to the airport shuttle service working well and the lobby looking nice, but appearances are deceiving when you pay this much money for a supposed 4-star hotel and then they don’t even have the most basic things like wifi in each room!!!
Thank you for the review, kindly advise the name of the hotel so we can forward the comment to them.

Thank you for your reply. It was the Southern Sun at the OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg.
After spending the night, I would also like to add that it is very strange to us that the rooms have no temperature controls. We would have expected a 4-star hotel to have thermostats in each room where you can change the temperature because the room got much too cold at night and, since there was also no blanket to add to the bedding, it was a bit chilly - especially for us just coming from the heat in America. Even the “lesser rated” City Lodge Hotel at the airport (where we stayed before) has individual temperature controls in the rooms!
On the positive side, we did think the breakfast in the morning was really great, and the services with the wheelchair availability for my mom plus the smaller shuttle being willing to take us directly to departures due to her mobility issues was excellent. (In fact, the whole reason why we did not go back to the City Lodge at the airport was because they have no wheelchair and were unwilling to help get mom to the check-in area, so the Southern Sun was very helpful in that sense).
We just still think that the hotel is shockingly out of date with things like the wifi, the TV, the temperature control, and the lack of bedding options. Finally, my mom asked me to add that the non-slip mats in the showers are a great addition (something that the City Lodge was lacking too), BUT they were painful to stand on (because it is the cheapest type that has big, hard bumps on the top) so she had to stand on wet towels instead to prevent slipping.
We would hope to stay at the hotel again in a few months, so hopefully the problems can be fixed before then.
