The hotel (O.R Tambo International) itself is lovely and the staff is lovely however the treatment of a person with a disability is appalling. I had advised and communicated with the hotel about my paraplegia and how I would need to be accommodated in terms of my room and shuttle. The shuttle was not disable friendly. I waited for over 2 hrs waiting for feedback from the hotel about transporting to the hotel and got no relief (everytime I called which was more than 10 times I was assured transport was on the way and it never came. At some stage the swithboard operator **** and said that the shuttle was busy as there were other paraplegic people they were transporting, which was a lie especially considering the time [23h00]). Instead my 15 yr old son had to push me on the very dangerous highway leading to the hotel for and 1h30min. We arrived at 00h30 when we had arrived in Jhb from Dbn at 19h00. We were hungry, cold, physically and mentally exhausted. I myself have never been so humiliated and discriminated against by such a big establishment. Upon Checking in, the Manger on duty Nandi, booked us to a non disabled room which in the morning we discovered I could not use yet the disability rooms were available. Tjis now meant we had to pack.up again and move. I am highly disappointed about my check-in. The rest of the stay was pleasant however I am not sure I would return nor recommend to anyone in my position. Right now as I writing this review, I am in bed, badly swollen and in pain which is caused by the terrible check-in. The establishment needs to be trained on how to handle people with disabilities. Not all of us are the same therefore it is important you learn the basics so you and adapt and learn how to treat us like people
