cape sun, strand street need lessons in hospitality

On 24/10/16 I checked in at the Cape Sun hotel only to be treated like a ******** by the Manager Wayne Speelman. At he front desk I had informed the receptionist that I am checking in, she then went to the back office and Wayne then came to the reception and cross questioned me about where I was coming from and then accused me of calling him and making arrangements for a shuttle from Stellenbosh to the hotel. I am now liable to pay R1000 for that shuttle. I informed him thatI never called him and my arrangements are done by Travel with Flair. He was extremely rude and imp**** Iwas lying and that "he must know pay R1000 out of his own pocket for me". my response was that it was his problem..

I reported the Matter to another manager Shaun, who promised the world but after my four night stay did nothing. To this day Wayne Speelman, the *********** manager who booked a shuttle for some woman using my details, never apologised. Cape Sun must not divulge any guest information - how did the shuttle service or this woman get my personal information? Apparently the Cape Sun is investigating the matter-which means they will do nothing further.

To make matters worse the room I was initially in, reeked of tabacco smoke and when the room was changed same story but worse the aircon didnt work and everytime another guest flushed next to my room it came up in the toilet in my room 3014. It was a nightmare. I travel for work and have been booked in the Cape Sun over 5 times thus far. This particular week being my longest stay. I had noted in the past that the Hotel and the restuarant tend to treat me as if I am invisible. I have equated this, based on my experience and observation of the staff, that it is because I am indian South African. Please Wayne and Cape Sun be reminded that RSA doesnt tolerate such prejudice anymore. I am a paying customer and does not have to be treated as if I am less than or nothing because I am Indian South Africa. The way you spoke to me Wayne, as if I am some nobody and you could say whatever you pleased. And you think you are too good to apologise to me after making such a grave error in judgement? Hopefully the next time you do that to a customer, they dont be as docile.

As for Rempies at the Cape Sun, I wait over 30mins to be attended to, my colleague who is white walks in and not even a minute later, at the same table that I am seated at, gets served. Really never expected that in Cape Town and I am from Pretoria. We in Pretoria are much more relaxed. Never expected this from a Southern Sun member, I travel to Durban, Johannesburg and Eastern Cape but this Cape Sun at strand street is disgusting.

Cape Sun please train your *********** staff and especially focus on guest treatment or management. Also your hotel policies and when booking shuttles for people to ensure it is the correct person and not a hoax.

I will be telling all my colleagues from the many government departments' who book at Cape Sun of my ordeal and the way the Manager handled it...by doing absolutely nothing.

Furthermore, iT was very interesting how the staff protect each other it took me until the next day to obtain information as to who is the correct manager to report this incident to, after being asked why? what is the need? or I am not sure, the manager is not in? Aside from giving me the run around, you people (and you know who you are) at Cape Sun dont deserve to be in the hospitality business or affiliated with the Tsogo sun brand. You dilute the Tsogo sun image to less than 1 star rating. This is my experience at the Cape Sun and my observation of the treatment I received. I reported it and nothing has been done to date.

regards

Poovanthri Naidoo
