Help, I’m moving…

Having not moved to a new house in over 14 years, the mission of having to move a household of 6 people (and pets) across the country was a daunting one. At the beginning of this year, we initially reached out to a few moving companies for assistance, but were quite disappointed because of the blasé service, high costs and poor response / feedback we received. Looking for alternative solutions on the internet in terms of shipping and freighting, we came across South African Relocations.

Note that because of bad previous experiences, I have had very little trust of moving companies being responsible for my things. Initially I really was considering doing something myself instead of using a service provider.

My first engagement and interaction with this company was their online service request form. I prefer not to use these because they usually don’t get responded to. However, I decided to go ahead and fill it in anyway with some basic information to see if anything would come of it.

A few days later, and to my surprise I received a response (an actual phone call) from Laticia of SA Relocations.

Who are we really dealing with? Our initial engagement…

Now regarding Laticia, I have rarely dealt with such a friendly and helpful customer service representative as this. She is not only a pleasure to engage with, but she is highly proactive, and I felt, genuinely sincere and caring about the help I needed. She is very diligent and expert in her work and would even regularly follow up with me about my requirements and the service I needed. She was also even willing to engage over WhatsApp which made communication with her and SA Relocations very convenient. She is also very persistent (which in the end was actually a good thing for me) and wouldn’t ‘give up’ on engaging with me for my business. My final deciding factor was to see if SA Relocations was able to provide me with a reasonable discount, which Laticia was more than willing to help with.

Side Note: I truly hope that Laticia is duly rewarded for all her efforts as she is indeed an excellent asset to SA Relocations. They would do well to ensure that she is well looked after. The service she provided to me was indeed a major deciding factor in us choosing SA Relocations to assist us.

The proof is in the…

Moving day finally came. Again, Laticia was very good in ensuring the date and time of the move with us, so we were as prepared as possible. The moving truck (and container) arrived that morning and the moving team descended on our house. Again, to my surprise the team were friendly, efficient, attentive, and caring when helping pack our plethora of things. I’m used to experiencing bad attitudes & deplorable behaviors with these types of workers but was so very grateful not to. They truly were helpful in the chaos that was ensuing. Even though I opted out of SA Relocations packaging service, they still brought with them materials needed to ensure everything was packed and protected very well for transport. At the end of a long day getting everything into the containers, I felt happy to reward them (justifiable so) on a job well done. So far so good, praise Jesus!

Note that although I have mentioned Laticia specifically (as she was my main point of contact for SA Relocations), I do feel to mention that the other ‘office’ staff I dealt with were also friendly and helpful. I didn’t experience anything negative, there was just a lack of response from a staff member who was off sick. Again, even when Laticia was recovering from Covid, she was still willing to engage with me about my move (unsung hero!!).

Next, delivery day finally came. Would things go as well as they did when packing up? I’m happy to say that all expectations were met! Truck & container arrived on time, and the moving team were as friendly and willing to help as the previous team. In terms of the container and things packed, nothing changed! Everything arrived as it had been sent. No breakages and damages, our things arrived in 100% good order.

Side Note: I noticed that these moving teams work really hard to provide a good, professional and friendly service. They are also to the best of their ability humble and respectful.

Oh No!!…

So inevitably as these things go, something got left behind in the truck (this was more my fault than the delivery team). Immediately I got in touch with Laticia, who very gracefully was able to get things organized and sorted out for me to get my item back. 2 weeks later (a reasonable waiting period) after it had a tour of the country, we got the item back and it was still in good condition. Clearly it was well looked after and kept secure for us. Laticia and the SA Relocations did their best to make sure we got it back asap. I certainly experienced a full spectrum of SA Relocations service this time round.

In the end I am very thankful for the excellent service from SA Relocations. I pray that this business be blessed and grows from strength to strength. We really do need more great companies like this in South Africa.
