As a parent, I am utterly disgusted and appalled by the apparent disregard for safety and accountability I’ve witnessed at SOS Camp.

This camp has already glossed over a tragic incident involving a learner drowning — which occurred while children were under adult supervision. One would expect serious reviews, safety reforms, and transparency following such a devastating event. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.

I have now personally witnessed a clear and dangerous violation of camp rules: children were allowed to run screaming through a paddock filled with alpacas, which chased and kicked forward to trip them. According to the camp manager, it is strictly against the rules for learners to enter the paddock at all — and yet, this happened while staff were present. It was reckless, frightening, and could easily have ended in injury.

When approached for clarification and accountability, the camp has refused to share contact details for the director, blocking a clear path for a formal complaint or investigation. Their response to my concerns has been dismissive and lacks the seriousness the situation demands.

The lack of transparency, the failure to enforce basic safety protocols, and the apparent unwillingness to take responsibility raise serious red flags. As parents, we entrust our children to these programs with the expectation of professional care and structured oversight — not chaos and cover-ups.

I urge other parents and schools to reconsider their engagement with SOS Camp until these safety concerns are formally addressed and proper accountability measures are in place.
