You had to fix my nails, not ruin them

On the 23rd of May 2016, I sent the following e-mail to ***, but I have not received any response. Also, I am still struggling with my nails. They are so weak, a nail breaks/tears on a daily basis.

I live in Vanderbijlpark. I had never visited any Sorbet salon before the one in Vaal Mall opened recently. However, I was aware of the brand, and perceived it as being a company with a good reputation.

That's the reason I'm writing to you - I am not convinced that the Vaal Mall salon is up to the usual Sorbet standard.

In April, I went to the salon for the first time, and told them about my problem. Four of my nails were broken quite badly, too deep to cut off, so I wanted gel overlay to strengthen the nails - they were painful and hooked on clothes etc. The the****** who assisted me (I think her name is Vinolia) decided on nail repair with only gelish. I asked her what the difference between normal (acrylic) gel and gelish was, and she said "there's not really a difference, the gelish is just in a bottle".

I had to come back to the salon two times, because the nails with nail repair simply started breaking even more. Each time it felt like a mission to explain what was wrong, and it felt like they weren't always that keen on helping me. Eventually, they cut my nails and put tips on with acrylic (only on some nails). This time I was helped by a different the******, and she was able to explain the difference between acrylic and gelish to me. It concerned me that not all the******s seem to have equal knowledge of their job.

Then I received an sms saying that I qualified for a 50% birthday voucher, max. discount R200. I e-mailed Vaal Mall's salon to double check what the price would be if I went for a Power Pedi with paraffin dip. However, the lady (Chantel) rep**** that I could only get max. R100 off. I (twice) had to send a screenshot of the sms I had received, and only then they gave me the R200 discount.

The Power Pedi was the only pleasant experience I had at Sorbet, and Nomsa was a wonderful the******, friendly and professional.

Last week I returned to Sorbet for a soak off, because my nails just continued breaking and I couldn't take it anymore. The receptionist asked one of the the******s to help me, but she simply said "no". Once again, that feeling that they are not keen to help, which is not great out of a client service point of view. They assisted me an hour later. My nails are now cut very short, but weak, and one nail has already started breaking again.

I am really disappointed. I don't get my nails done often, so I expect to go to Sorbet and trust them to decide on the best solution for my needs. I expect them to be experts, and I expect friendly service. I now get the idea that they should have put on hard acrylic in the first place, because gelish is too soft. But they didn't, and now my nails are weak and messed up.

I feel like I never want to visit Sorbet again, and would not recommend it to anyone. I really think you should investigate Vaal Mall's salon to check if all their staff members are knowledgeable and professional. We get so excited when city brands come to our mall - just because this is the Vaal Triangle and not Sandton, does not mean that we are okay with a lower standard of service, especially not if we pay high prices.
