Sony Z3 not waterproof like they say

After my son tried to take a pic in the water, the screen just went black. I have sent the phone in to Vodacom twice. Both times they told me the problem was water damage. REALLY??? And Sony say the phone is waterproof. The phone is not even 3 months old.
