Formal Complaint Letter I contacted Somerset Trailer Hire immediately. The person on duty insisted that I must return the trailer in the same condition in which I rented it, but offered no assistance. I explained that I was unable to do so without the correct wheel spanner, yet he repeated the same instruction without providing a solution. I then contacted my insurance company. Although the trailer was not covered under my policy, they arranged for a towing company to assist. The towing company required upfront payment of R1100 before replacing the tire with the spare. I agreed to pay, and the tire was replaced, allowing me to continue my journey. This expense was incurred solely because the trailer was supp**** without a wheel spanner. It is highly irresponsible to send a trailer onto public roads without the necessary equipment to change a tire. Not all vehicle wheel spanners fit trailer bolts, and this omission caused unnecessary cost and inconvenience. I therefore request reimbur*****t of R1100 from Somerset Trailer Hire CC, as this amount was spent to restore your trailer to roadworthy condition. Regards, Corrie du Toit Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a trailer I rented from Somerset Trailer Hire CC in Somerset West on 7 March 2026 (Tax Invoice No. 7804). The trailer was supp**** in good working order, with no defects or structural damage. We loaded boxes in Somerset West and then proceeded to Cape Town, where we added a washing machine, more boxes, and other small items. From Cape Town, we continued to Vredenburg to deliver the load to friends. After unloading, we began our return journey with an empty trailer. Just after the Yzerfontein offramp on the R27 road back to Somerset West, the trailer’s left tire burst. Although a spare wheel was provided, there was no wheel spanner included to remove the damaged tire and fit the spare. My vehicle’s wheel spanner did not fit the trailer’s bolts, leaving me stranded on the roadside. I contacted Somerset Trailer Hire immediately.
