Pathetic service delivery and NO communication unless you follow up with them!

Pathetic communication and service levels from this company and its contractors. Since placing my order and paying the 100% fee upfront at the end of May it has been just disappointing in terms of poor service and still waiting for them to finalise my install for my generator and provide me with a CoC. Promises of calling you back and giving dates that everything will be sorted is their norm. Totally unprofessional in terms of providing the service they advertise and communicating between their installers and themselves. I had to call them back after they did my geyser conversion as a pipe came loose overnight due to the installers not doing a proper job and water streaming down my roof for hours during the night untill I realised there was problem early morning. Not even an apology from the company. Then they sent the wrong roof kit for the panels after I twice told them that I had a Harvey tile roof and putting back the install by another 5 days. Once the correct roof racks arrived they installed all panels on one side of the roof and not on two sides as was agreed upon. After informing them this was wrong they moved half the panels and I have holes where they removed the tracks to move them to the other side of the roof. The holes were filled with *****s to prevent water ingress and paint I provided (nice one, thanks for that!). Again no official apology for their poor workmanship and miscommunication. They sent another contractor last week and I thought he would finish the job however he informed me that he was told to come show me how to do a 'changeover'. This contractor informed me he would be back the next day to finish. Still waiting!. I was also informed that I would receive a CoC by email. If Solar Advice think they can send me a CoC by email without doing a proper inspection and test as per SANS10142 and by a registered electrician they have another thing coming. Watch this space...

Good day Danie

After consulting with the team I am now aware that everything has been rectified, and your geyser issue was in fact caused by a bad installation prior to ours, we fixed this for you which we didn't charge you for.

The wrong brackets for your specific roof type was an error, we installed your AC side whilst obtaining the correct brackets, this did delay the install of the panels by a few days.

With regards to your panel install, I was informed that they positioned the panels north facing which is typical for a solar installation to get the maximum sun, they quickly positioned them the way you wanted and then plugged the holes and painted over them as you requested. Our installers said you were happy with this and they thank you for buying them lunch.

We didn't apologise for this error because no one was under the impression that you were unhappy.

I've tried to find any communication or attempt to contact us, I've spoken to our installer, our sales team, and our after-sales team, no one recalls you emailing, phoning, or Whatsapp messaging. If you are able to tell me who you spoke to so I can follow up on that.

We have multiple contractors who all work for us and we always send specific electricians depending on the need and requirement.

CoC certificates are now issued digitally, the electrician who issued the certificate keeps the original and sends the soft copy to the customer. This is standard, you can consult another electrician to verify.

With regards to the generator installation, Solar Advice doesn't install generators, this isn't a service we offer and it's a conflict of interest not being green energy, however, we can ask one of our electricians to do this as it's not as straightforward as connecting it to the inverter as it needs a relay.

If you can tell me specifically where you saw this as part of the installation or if you asked anyone that you wanted it done I can follow up on this, my electrician said that if this something you want done he will go out of his way and install it for you without cost, this will be out of his own pocket because as mentioned we don't install generators.

If you require new tiles for your roof because it's clear that you aren't happy we would have replaced them, we can't help you if you don't tell us directly.

To call us "pathetic" and that say we don't communicate when you haven't spoken to us first is completely unfair.

Please get in contact and tell us what you want to do moving forward.

I have sent the email trail that originated on the 27th May up until 28th June and would like an apology for you saying that I haven't communicated the generator connection and CoC issues with you. In his reply to me, Leon CC'd Tammy, Lennon and Ben so do not tell me that I did not communicate these issues and that you were not aware of this. It indicates again the poor communication, ignorance, and arrogance from Solar Advice.

With regards to the geyser install. I was not even aware of these 'prior bad install' issues until Monday morning this week when Ben Stapelberg phoned me to say a team will come through during the day to make corrections due to the plumbing inspector having picked these up. My question to him was why I was never notified of these issues and he informed me that they only got the photographs weeks after due to backlogs. Ben never gave me an indication on Monday morning that this would be out of scope from the geyser conversion install and only phoned me later that afternoon, after his team left that this was done at his own expense. Again this was something I was not aware of beforehand and I thanked him for going out of his way to ensure that the CoC that was issued for the geyser would be acceptable to insurers.

With regards to the roof panels. When Schoeman was here to do the inverter install we discussed the placing of the panels. I am totally aware that panels should be installed north facing to be most efficient. My north-facing section of the roof was too small to accommodate this and it was decided that the panels would be split with 7 on the western side and 7 on the eastern side as this would get the most efficiency. It seems this was not communicated with his team as they later when the mounting kit arrived to install the panels all on the eastern side in 2 rows of 7 and 7. I picked up that this was wrong and not done as was discussed and Ben from the installing crew informed me that they could move the other 7 panels to the west side of the roof and that the fix for the holes would be to insert *****s and apply roof paint over them to prevent water ingress. I agreed to this as it did not make sense to spend all this money and not getting the efficiency from the system. Me buying the crew lunch was not saying thank you for drilling and filling holes in my roof. I bought lunch for my family and included them as I am a decent human being recognizing other people's efforts. The fact that this is even brought up baffles me. The crew can only do what they have been told or think and again there was no communication or process for them to follow to ensure that they do the install as was intended. Instead of Solar Advice acknowledging that they have erred and made corrections to prevent this from happening again and getting processes in place like work instructions and simple drawings for a crew to follow you rather pass the buck to the client by saying you agreed to this after the fact that damage to my roof was already done. As I told Tammy yesterday when she phoned me I can get the damaged roof panels repaired by replacing them if you agree to this and pay for the repairs? After all, this was done by your contractor due to poor communication on their side. In your reply to me, you say you did not apologise as you were under the impression I was unhappy. I bet you that the moving of panels and drilling and filling of extra holes was not even communicated to any supervisor until I raised this in my original post.

You have rep**** that " I've tried to find any communication or attempt to contact us, I've spoken to our installer, our sales team, and our after-sales team, no one recalls you emailing, phoning, or Whatsapp messaging." I have sent you the email trail of my queries. I have even received calls informing me that Lennon would be in contact and that has still not happened. The only time I have spoken to Lennon was before the install when he informed me that some of his team had to be tested for Covid and that they would only start the next day after receiving status on the results. That is the last time Lennon phoned me and nothing since after all the promises by email or from Mariska and Tammy phoning me and informing me that he would be in contact.

In terms of the CoC for the inverter installation. As I informed Tammy yesterday when she phoned me, my concern is not the digital issue of the CoC, it is that a registered electrician has not done any inspection and tests as guided by SANS10142. Have all aspects as required by this standard been comp**** to? In order for you to issue a CoC, a simple thing such as labels need to conform and currently do not like the newly installed changeover DB switches has not been labeled? I have been charged for A CoC and paid Solar Advice for a CoC and expect just that. That a proper inspection, testing, and verification by a registered electrician for the installation was done. By all means, if Solar Advice is of the opinion that they are in a position to provide me with a CoC please do so. I will then take it further to check the validity with the professional body the electrician is registered with as well as the DoL. If you do not want to issue a CoC please notify me and I will get an independent registered electrician to conduct the certification and testing. You will however have to reimburse me for this and I need this in a written agreement.

In terms of the connection point for my generator. The inverter allows for this and I discussed this with Schoeman on the day of the inverter installation. We even discussed various points externally where they could do this in terms of where my generator is located. There was no mention of this not being part of a standard install and nowhere on your website or quote to me this was explicitly noted. What your quote does indicate under installation is that it 'includes all aspects of the installation. How does this then exclude a generator connection point if the inverter does have this functionality? You further indicate on your installation information that the install includes R 8000 worth of materials. Is this not included under this and how is this amount justified? I have even queried this with Leon (20th June) and the other person's CC'ed in my emails to you and not once have you responded that this is not done as a standard install? For now, I will accept that this is not done as part of your standard install but please somewhere in your question set to clients do communicate this.

Please contact me on a way forward in terms of the CoC. Whether this is done by your registered electrician is not my concern as long as it gets done by physical testing and verification that all aspects of the installation are in compliance.

Good day Danie,

Thank you for your reply.

The COC has been completed by the practicing, registered electrician that installed and sorted the DB box. This is the licensed electrician who has submitted the COC registration. This is the procedure for the issuing a COC. Should you require your own verification procedures unfortunately will be at your own expense.

We do apologize for your dissatisfaction in our service, we most certainly aim for a better response and shall do better in any new and apparent areas brought to our attention, one being that the "All aspects of installation" can be understood in many ways, we did mean all areas of what we issue to you will be installed of course, which I believe is all intact. We will change that phrase.

If there are any damages that have still yet to be documented or reported, kindly send forth any details of the report for us to submit to insurance claims for which Lennon is covered, a standard procedure in the event of any unforeseen accidents.

Regarding the extras valued at R8000, this is the AC distribution box with  surge protection which we sell online at R3400 and the DC combiner with surge protection for which we sell for R4500 for a 2 in 2 out. The rest as in AC cables, trunking etc, which I am sure you will reach well over the R8000 value we mention.

Further to this, we await and report for submission in repairs to conclude this experience and move on without any further upset or unintended insult.

I have not received any CoC and I cannot accept any CoC without Solar Advice or your electrical contractor finishing the work like the labeling as I have indicated. When will this be done?
