Responsible decision - Dangerous situation

My friends and I have become very conscious of road safety and the dangers of neglecting to consider these matters while enjoying a full social calendar. So part of our party preparation has become the planning of how to get home. On Saturday 11 January 2017 we made use of the Sober Chauffeur service to get us home to Durbanville from Cape Town - a journey of about 40km.

On the way home, the driver's approach was extremely conservative - driving at about 80km/h on the N1 highway. Sitting in the passenger seat, I asked him politely to consider speeding up to about 110km/h. He refused. Then, about 5 or so minutes later, I again asked him politely to speed up a little. This time he stopped the car on a very isolated and potentially dangerous stretch of road. He then stated that we could drive ourselves home and left...

My friend and I were then left with very little alternative but to try to make our way home.

I shudder to think what might have happened if I had not had a relatively quiet evening and been able to drive home safely myself anyway. Or, even worse, if my pregnant wife and a friend had been with that driver in the car that evening.
