Damaged goods & disappointing service

In July 2016 I purchased a bed and mattress for my son as a birthday gift and paid the full cost to Smoozy Kids Furniture in Johannesburg via EFT, which included delivery costs to Cape Town. They assured me that they coud deliver and since I had seen their advert many times in the Child magazine as well as other prestigious ones, I was inclined to trust them. I was promised delivery in Cape Town in 3 days.

I later received a call from Dayle to inform me that the mattress was not in stock and would take an extra 03 days as to what was previously advised. Not only was this undertaking later not kept, I was given a number of contradictory excuses for the delay, including that the courier company had already collected the items, which they said was not so when I called them.

When the delivery eventually took place more than 30 days later, it was delivered without the mattress. The bed was delivered on 23rd August 2016. When the mattress arrived a week after that on 31 August, it was soiled and dirty and the plastic packaging was torn.

It was then that we assembled the bed and found the instructions to construct the bed was in Chinese.

The final straw was however the fact that a crucial part of the bed was broken in 2. When we raised this with Smoozy, they advised me that it was in essence not their problem and directed us to the courier company they has chosen for the deliveries. They too refused any liability and we were then stuck with a bed that couldn't be used and Smoozy refusing to pay for collection and delivery costs. Much later they informed me they would pay for the broken part but it was never collected nor was a new part delivered and no further correspondence from them.

Quite disappointing service and treatment all-round when you consider that we spent just under R10K for the bed and mattress.
