SMG Durban If you are not under motor plan, they are not that keen to help .
If you have a Motor plan they are ok to deal with. When you go to them out of motor plan to enforce warranty on something you might have bought, cash then the gloves are off. I bought a genuine BMW battery from them. When I took the car back to them under warranty as the battery was not holding charge I assumed this would be as simple as it is with battery centre. I assumed they would test the battery and replace it if needs be. They assured us when we booked the car in that it was covered.
But no! this is SMG we are talking about.
They said that I had at some point left the lights on (who has not) and as a result, the warranty was void.
So I needed to pay for a new BMW battery. When I said I would just take my car to a battery specialist and replace it at R1800 they hit me with a handling fee of R1800. (I had no idea they would do this, or that they could even do this) Now if I pay them R1800 I still have to go to a battery place and spend another R1800 to replace the battery. They said it's under warranty bring it in. No mention of an assessment fee. Battery places don't charge an assessment fee to check batteries. I have recordings of all these conversations if anybody is interested.
