Unauthorized Removal of Parts from My Vehicle

I booked my BMW 335i Convertible in at SMG BMW in Century City on the 2nd of May 2017.

My instructuions were for them to do a service, check brakes and check the roof mechanism.

3 weeks after the service, there was strong smell of oil whilst driving. I also noted the temperature gauge was constantly around 120 after about 20 minutes of driving, especially in peak traffic.

This raised concerns, so I took the car in to be checked. Service foreman Chase checked the car with me and advised me of the following:-

· The gauge on the dashboard was for the Oil Temperature and not Water, and it is normal to be around 115 to 120 degrees.

· The smell of oil was a result of an oil leak caused as a result of a damaged vent pipe

I Booked the car in on the 5th of June for an assessment to be done and advised them that the temparature guage reached high temparatures and Chase was aware of what had to be done with regards to suspected oil leaks.

This was however treated as overheating and water pressure test was done. The quote was High and I didn't accept it immediately. On the 6th of June, I had to drive to Panorama Hospital due to an “Angina” and discovered that water was leaking out of the Coolant hose that connects to the water bottle.

I took the car back in for the hose and vent pipe to be replaced. The work was only completed on the 12th of June due to them awating delivery of parts to to repair it. My vehicle stood at the dealership from the 6th to the 12th of June 2017.

Upon fetching my car, I establised that both headlights were not working. I contacted SMG the next day and spoke to Eunice and Chase about it and was aksed to bring the car in for them to check it as they did not Touch the Lights on the car. I was then asked to book it in, but chose to go back to the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from. He suspected that water could have got into the lights as he found holes that exposed the lights. I then sent an email to Mark Ross, the Dealer principal at SMG with my complaints and concerns. He forwaded this to Ashraf Wallace to investigate and copied Gavin Snyman in. Mr. Wallace responded saying that water could not have got in during the pressure test and refused to accept responsibility for the lights. I then took the car to Werstatt Motors, to have all oil and vent pipes repaired, and have the lights repaired. The propriotor established that the light covers had been removed, which is what the dealer referred to as a hole but didnt figure out that the covers missing.

The German Technician, Andy, at Werkstatt, then found the covers lying in the boot of the car, which I hadn't seen due to not having a need to open the boot until then. He tried to replace the light bulbs which were now burnt Bulbs and not the originals that were in the car when it went into SMG. He was unable to install the new bulbs as the power supply/ BALLASTS had been removed. I then took the car to another BMW workshop owned by an ex BMW technician. He also advised me that the BALLATS had been removed and NO BULBS will work without them.

I sent another email to SMG to which I got no response and followed up with another, indicating that I was going to proceed with action against them and Mr. Wallace put the exact same words about water in the lights on a letterhead and sent that to me, once again denying responsibilty for what in actual fact can be Construed asTheft as Parts were Removed from my Vehicle without my Consent and Not replaced which has resulted in the car not having HEADLIGHTS.

My only reason for taking my car into SMG BMW initally was to ensure that I used an accreditted BMW workshop which one would expect to be reputable, even at a higher cost despite my car being out of Motor Plan.

Is this what repuatable is about??Technicians that remove parts from vehicles knowing fully well what the value of these parts are, and Yet the Managemnt still want to be in denial. I am certain that investigation will reveal that more clients have had problems with this dealership and that some of their technicians do conduct work on BMW's in their private Capacities. Does this open the door for THEFTof parts for specific vehicles???

SMG BMW Cape Town puts a sour taste in your mouth and Huge Holes in your pockets..
