Low Trade In Offers
On 24/01/2015 I had a look at a 2013 BMW X3. Jerry showed me the car and had a look at my car which was a 2009 BMW X3 and was serviced at SMG PMB. He said he will phone me on Monday to tell me what they would give me for my car which he did.In the meantime I had phoned other BMW Dealers and other dealers who advertised X3 to make me an offer. All other dealers offered me between R15000 and R30000 more for a vehicle that they have not seen. Jerry had said he will talk to his manager and phone me back which he never did. I wrote an email to SMG PMB and cc Jerry on 31/01/2015 to voice my dissappointment and to this day 16/02/2015 had no correspondence. At the end it worked out better for me as I got R30000.00 more for trade in for a better X3. I just thought that I would like to tell other customers to shop around and not take any offer SMG PMB give you. I would have lost R30000.00!

Trade in prices can be very subjective and depend on a number of factors, and prices offered by different dealers can vary substantially. Prices are driven by a number of factors, namely, dealers current stock situation, demand for car being traded in, estimated reconditioning, mileage etc. Markets are also different when pricing used cars. For example, a high mileage car in JHB might fetch a higher price than in Durban and PMB or visa versa.
The price of the vehicle being purchased also affects the trade in value, however, at the end of the day the customer is free to make his own informed decision, and unlike certain products where there is controlled pricing, motor dealers are open to negotiation and one needs to look all these circumstances when purchasing a new or used vehicle.
