Smeshmega customs and dhl fees for a smartphone

I bought a wp17 rug phone for R4600. Before buying it from Smeshmega, I asked the chat salesperson what the total import tax would be. He said around R400. So I went ahead with the purchase. Yesterday I received an email from DHL for customs requesting payment for another R1370 before releasing the phone. This is way too much and 3 times more than what the Smeshmega agent told me. Apparently you get charged double tax for SARS because the phone is a "luxury item". And also a further 10% for the government. In addition to all that, DHL adds a further R200 for "disbur*****t fee" which is actually an admin fee. That's what the lady MpHo from DHL helpline said. So yes ...before buying anything from smeshmega just be aware that you would be paying an extra 35% on top of the price you paid for the phone. ** YOU PAY MUCH MORE THAN THE QUOTED R400 for customs for a Smartphone** DHL is NOT FREE ...as advertised on smeshmega.

Btw I haven't received the phone yet. I will another review when I do receive it
