This company is not trustworthy - be weary
We had an accident with our car on 19-Oct-14. The third party insurance ruled that it wasn't economically viable to repair the vehicle and suggested we negotiate with SMD to purchase the wreck. Daya Pillay from SMD in Chamdor made an offer which we accepted and the deal was concluded shortly thereafter. As part of the entire process Daya informed us that the vehicle would be deregistered from our name and dealer stocked. Now, eight months later we bought another car and upon trying to get in licenced we were informed that there's outstanding licence fees and penalties on our previous car which should have been paid by 27-Nov-14. I approached Daya Pillay in this regard who noted he would investigate. After following up several times and not getting any feedback from him, I escalated the matter to their head office. Shortly thereafter I received an email from him advising that we failed to renew the licence. I asked him to provide proof and he forwarded me the same document I sent him showing payment due by 27-Nov-14. I requested proper proof and to this day he's not provided the proof. I've requested the matter be escalated to senior management but have not had a reply. Be weary!!!
As per your discussions with our Head of Operations, the outstanding fees preventing you from licensing your new vehicle were traffic violations on your old vehicle incurred pre-sale to SMD, and an expired license. These fees are payable by you.
However, we sincerely apologise for the lack of communication you have received in resolving the issue. Our Head of Operations will be in contact with you on Wednesday to finalise the matter.
