Dear Sir,
This letter serves to confirm that we have reviewed the merits of your complaint received on the 27/07/2018.
The product that forms the basis of your complaint is an Alexander Forbes Exterior policy underwritten by Alexander Forbes Insurance Company of which SMART UMA act as the appointed claims administrator. The policy provides cover against minor damages sustained to your vehicle caused by day to day driving from every day wear and tear and includes provision for the maintenance and restoration of the exterior bodywork of your vehicle. The policy has a maximum indemnity limit of R3 000.00 VAT inclusive subject to the policy terms and conditions being adhered to as noted in the schedule.
The claim in contention was reported on the 11/07/2018. It was advised that vehicle required maintenance of the vehicles bonnet, front and rear bumper and right front fender. The normal claims procedure was followed whereby we requested to obtain and produce quotes and to send photos (MMS) regarding the required maintenance and restoration.
Upon receiving the requested information – we proceeded to reject the claim as the damages quoted for which equates to R9 596.61 exceeds the policy indemnity limit of R 3 000.00 VAT inclusive and regrettably is specifically excluded from the scope of cover.
The amount advised is the total amount calculated in accordance with the 4 quotations received:
Bonnet: R 2 996.67
Front Bumper: R 2 683.07
Right Front Fender: R 2 950.21
Furthermore when the motor vehicle is brought in for maintenance to the body under this plan you may not select to have repairs or restoration carried out on only certain damages on the motor vehicle as all damages to the body panels reported will be taken into account when calculating the cost for repair or restoration.
It is pertinent to mention that the policy specifically lays reference to giving notice to the Insurer within 30 days of the incident.
In addition any maintenance work in excess of the limit is usually not minor maintenance and may be covered under a comprehensive motor insurance policy. This means that if the quote is received and is over R 3 000.00 the damage will no longer be defined as maintenance.
The registration of the above incident will have no adverse effect on your policy, existing restorations cannot be carried over to a next maintenance request and will be noted as pre-existing against the policy profile until proof of repairs is received. Regrettably new damage will also be declined should it be on the same panel affected and declined under this claim.
After careful consideration of all the factors pertaining to your complaint, we regret to advise that our decision remains unchanged.
Please refer to the following clause(s) in your policy wording:
Clause: 2 - Exclusions For Repairs
Paragraph: (2.5)
In view of the matter all damages are taken into account in order to assess the respective incident calculating the cost of your claim and we remain of the opinion that all claims were administered in accordance with the policy terms and conditions.

Dear Sir,
We are in no way or form denying that four separate quotations were submitted - what we are trying to relay is that ALL quotations received were taken into account and totalled as per the damages reported.
Regrettably the damages reported will not been deemed as separate events.
