Siyancuma Municipality ****gery
Today I saw what can easily be defined as ****gery by the local municipality in Douglas, Northern Cape. Two young men who were apparently sent to inform pensioners of 6000l extra water that will be supp**** to them if they can prove they are subsidised. One pensioner in particular was yelling from across the street that they were lying. I mean, 6000l subsidised water is a lot. So they asked the elderly woman to let them in so they could check the meter and activate the subsidised water. She lets them in. One works at the meter while the other one keeps the old lady occupied. Telling her that so many young people do not want to pay their municipal bills and that it unfortunately falls to the pensioners to fork up the money. They all agree that it is a travesty and then they leave. Not even a minute passed before the old lady yells at the other one over the street and tells her that the two men indeed shut off he water. She says that she pays her bill every month and that she feels betrayed by her municipality. She says that it's the same with her electricity. That if she buys a R20 token, she only gets about 8units of electricity. I felt disgusted and saddened by this municipality that, over a month ago, promised the elderly exemption from municipal bills if they voted ANC.
