stay away

Bought Sinotech model STL-32VN67D 5 years a go. Took it recently to repair shop as TV had no picture, yet sound was fine. According to repair shop the back light has blown, but could not be replaced as Sinotech no longer manufacture this part. I phoned Sinotech and person confirmed this is indeed so. they could not assist and said I must try DSTV repairs. Is this the norm in this industry that you do not get spares after a certain period of time? I find this exceptionally poor and would say from Sinotech you stay away.
