Disappointing Response to a Serious Food Safety Concern
Approximately two months ago, I purchased a packet of KFC Flavour Simba chips from my local SPAR while watching a soccer match. While eating the chips, I discovered a foreign object inside the sealed packet. I immediately reported the matter to Simba. They collected the product and conducted an investigation. After some time, I received a response thanking me for bringing the matter to their attention and advising that the investigation had been concluded. However, no meaningful explanation was provided about how the foreign object ended up in the packet or what measures had been taken to prevent this from happening again. To make matters worse, the only compensation I received was a R40 voucher. I find this completely unacceptable. This was not a complaint about the taste or quality of the chips—it was a serious food safety concern involving a foreign object in a sealed packet. Fortunately, I noticed it before swallowing it, but the outcome could have been much worse. I work for the Department of Health, so I understand the importance of food safety and quality control. Incidents like this should be treated with the seriousness they deserve. A R40 voucher does not adequately address the potential health risk or the concern and distress caused by this incident. As a long-standing Simba customer, I expected a far more responsible and customer-focused resolution. Sadly, I have been left extremely disappointed by the way my complaint was handled. Unless Simba reviews how they respond to serious consumer safety complaints, they will be losing a loyal and valuable customer. I hope Simba responds by taking this matter seriously and providing a more appropriate resolution
