Ruined my wedding night!

We got married on 8 April 2023. My generous father paid for us to spend our wedding night at Tsogo Sun’s Silverstar Hotel. He paid for our night on 4 Feb 2023. We received our booking confirmation and so we were excited that things were coming together.

Weeks came and went, and our wedding day arrived. We had a beautiful day. When it was time to head to the hotel, I saw a missed call from the hotel. I called and they asked if we were still coming through. I told them yes; we were just about to leave our wedding venue.

We got to Siverstar Hotel just after midnight. We got to the reception to book in. We were then told that our room wasn’t paid for. I told the guy that we had paid. He asked for proof of payment. Now when you pay by credit card, you don’t have proof of payment.

All you have is the payment that shows up on your statement. He told me that we could pay then, and we could sort it out in the morning. I told him no; "I don’t have that money on me." I sure as hell wasn’t going to pay again.

I called my poor dad about this, and as you can imagine he was not happy, he spoke to the guy, and he wouldn’t budge. He wouldn’t even call management to assist. My dad sent me a picture of the printout of his statement showing the payment made. This wasn’t good enough.

I started to get really upset, trying to hold my tears back as this man is now ruining my wedding night. Nothing we said was going to change anything. Upset, tired and angry we leave the hotel to sleep at home on our wedding night.

The next morning my dad calls the hotel and the lady he spoke to told him that the room was paid for, that there was a problem with their system and that the booking and payment didn’t connect. They take full responsibility.

She couldn't understand why the receptionist wouldn't let us go to our room. She offered a night in their luxury room with a romantic turndown. My dad told her that the hotel ruined his daughter’s wedding night, I had been crying nonstop. He asked if that’s all they can do?

So, negotiations started but no one was happy, so the Wednesday following my wedding my dad asked for his money back. It’s almost a month since our wedding, and my dad is still waiting for his money back.
