Refuse to exchange even if in same condition. Sealed item

I am very upset. On.monday I purchase father's day gift , but because my hubby said my dad not into lotions or the roll on. So I wanted to exchange. Gift still sealed. Not touched at all. In same condition. Consultant at desk told me she is not allowed. Told her in same condition. And I came back next day. She then said I must come back on Friday so she can get permission. There service stinks. Not happy at all.
