Dismal holiday sponsor

After winning a competition and being awarded a weekend stay at the Sierra Family Adventure Resort my wife and I were really excited. We then booked our stay for the 18th and 19th of November 2016.

We left from Johannesburg , 480km away from home and upon getting to the resort we got kind of lost as there were no sign boards giving us directions to the place and the GPS positioning was incorrect and we couldnt get hold of the resort on the land lines from the internet but nevertheless we managed to find it buy asking the locals in the area. We were not told that the drive from the main road to the resort was that of a gravel road which was fairly bumpy and rocky. we made our way to the receptionist who assisted us. she showed us some parts of the resort and then told us that our room is upstairs. As we climbed up, we could get a very musty old smell from the carpeted stairs and aisle, we opened the door and was greeted by the same musty smell of carpet and wood in the room. The room on the website was nothing compared to what we entered into. The ceiling had a cracked cornish and a brown damp water spot suggesting it leaks, the wooden bathroom sliding door handle was broken from the inside and you have to lift and pull the door to get it closed and opened. The shower head was dirty and stained brown from were the water comes out which was gross! the toilet water was a brownish colour. The bed was the most dissapointing thou. the white duvet had stains on, the pillows had stains on, the bed sheet had stains on and all didnt smell the freshest. we then made our way outside to take a walk and discuss if we should still stay. we went to the communial lounging area where everyone watches tv or hangs out and then there were cats, 2 of which were sitting and scratching themslves on the couches. The pool was beautiful, I couldnt fault it. The tennis courts were probably being refurbished as the side wire fences and poles were out. the soccer and volley ball area looked in bad touch. We then made a decision to leave as we couldnt get over the experience. We made our way to the receptionist and conveyed our dissapointment and showed her the pictures we took and all she asked was, can we give you another room to which we declined. she then went into another office and closed the door and came out with our refundable deposit and a service questionaire. No manager was called and no care what so ever was shown by her to go with us to see the problems and try and persuade us to stay. We didnt even get a courtesy call from the resort to find out what had happened to date. Although this was a prize that we won, surely patrons shouldnt get treated the way we did. This was by far the worst holiday destination and experience that myself and my wife experienced. in my opinion, the photos on the website was probably taken on the opening day and hasnt been updated. I wish that resorts like these be open and honest with patrons and if they award prizes, live up to it and provide the best service you can even if it was a prize that you sponsored.
