Shosholoza Snail train

The train was fine, the staff were fantastic given the circumstances of our return journey from Johannesburg to cape Town. We ( 7 ladies) boarded the train at Park Station - on time!! Our destination was Laingsburg - we arrived about 4 hours later than the official arrival time. Reviews had warned of 4 - 5 hour delays , so we were quite satisfied with the delay - not happy , but not surprised!! The train had trouble with electricity - no toilets could flush!! Throughout this journey - the staff were patient, kind and as helpful as they could be. The return journey turned into a 36 hour nightmare. Once again I commend the staff on board for their kindness and helpfulness - under awful circumstances. A locomotive had to be sent for as our was " broken" - we often had no electricity - the kitchen ran out of food, there was nothing to drink from the bar. Some were given the option of boarding a bus in Warrenton - those of us who remained on the train duly chugged into Park station at 3 am. No blame can be layed at the feet of the staff - but higher up at PRASA - heads should surely roll. We should be proud of our train service - the staff are great - something is dreadfully wrong at the top!!!!
