While there is fine print somewhere on the ceiling about this policy, customers, already burdened by limited income, find it frustrating to comply. Moreover, staff members exhibit a frustrating tendency to watch customers stand in line, only to turn them away at the last minute, even though the checkout machines can ring up more than 10 items. This appears to be an exercise in unnecessary authority. After spending considerable time shopping and queuing, it is disheartening to have groceries returned to the shelves, especially by an employee who seems to take personal offense.
