Shoprite kiosk refuses to sell me a SIM card.

I have bought a new smartphone, that uses a nano SIM card, instead of the micro SIM card used in my previous phone. Since I wanted to keep my old number, I had to do a SIM swap.

According to the rules of CellC, in this case you have to buy a new SIM card, without doing the RICA process. This is also stated on the packaging of the new SIM card. The RICA details will be transfered to the new SIM card during the SIM swap process. It is not possible to do a SIM swap once you have RICA'd the new SIM card.

On 13 December 2018, the lady at the Shoprite kiosk (Kathu branch) bluntly refused to sell me a SIM card, stating that her system does not allow this without doing the RICA process. Being a small town, Kathu does not have a CellC shop. I was lucky to be able to obtain a new SIM card from an informal repair shop.
