Shoprite Is Dirty

Dear Shoprite Management,

I'm a black man who grew up in a black community and had the privilege of visiting the same store in different communities across South Africa.

I visited Shoprite Sontonga in Katlehong on the evening of 26 January 2025 for a quick purchase and I don't wish to sound ***ist by mentioning that the cashiers on duty were all females, but it is general housekeeping rules to keep your work station clean and neat without obstructions.

I observed that all the cashiers from the till point I paid from up until the last going towards the exit had dirty work surfaces where on one of them there was visible mealie meal and water (from a scanned item that had a bit of ice frost on the outside) and none of the cashiers had a cloth at hand to wipe their surfaces after serving a number of customers.

Despite the lack of queue management systems that have become a norm, we don't need Covid as a nation in order to have proper housekeeping at our tills.

Complaints: * Dirty till point surfaces * No queue management

Recommendations: * Sanitize till surface after a number of customers and always keep it clean * Place markings on the floor that depict where people need to queue and leave adequate gaps between till points and isles for other customers who are still shopping around for their items; The runner who collects shopping baskets at the till points, left by shoppers after paying to manage the queue (ensure adherance to floor markings).

We (other bothered shoppers and I) would highly appreciate it if these complaints can be attended to so our shopping experience is not an excruciating experience with the silent careless messages the store management is sending to the communities around their store. The same staff deployed to a white dominated area will provide excellent service, so this demonstrates management's lack of commitment to decent service.

Regards
