Shoprite has earned a reputation with its poor customer service from rude staff members.

I & my wife have been shopping at Shoprite for the last four years and we have had a few disappointments that I didn't see fit to always escalate them since I tend to brush most unnecessary concours. But today I was humiliated in public by the lady who was at the parcel counter as you know it's situated outside in front of people queuing for money market and it happened the liquor store today had a huge line as well since people are celebrating reconciliation.

As we approached her she raised her hands and told us that Shoprite does not accept more than 5parcels, of which it was a shock to us because we have always brought a full trolley for storage and also leave with another one full. But as I was shocked that now I am no longer eligible to shop at Shoprite because of my parcels, I asked her since when did Shoprite implement this law and she changed her tone to a tone of someone irritated of which I became estranged and had to endure the public eye as I was being lectured about cakes and alcohol not being allowed at the parcel counter, funny because I had none of those, so I asked her since there are posters that flash the rules how come this new rule is not advertised?

She then told me that I am rude to request a poster as she is addressing me about the new festive rule, of which I became irritated and kept my mouth shut and my wife stepped in and asked if we could speak to the manager of which she told us we can go in and tell the manager that her "..Ongezwa.....Mpethwa' (stating her name and surname) is trying to tell us the rules about alcohol and cakes and I am being rude? she began packing our parcels and told my wife that I am rude and my wife rebuked her attitude on the whole matter. as we got in we did our shopping and I went to the office to look for the manager who wasn't at the office and I found him by the kitchen slumping on a table, I asked to talk to him and he lazily called me to approach him of which when I told him I have a complaint he seemed out of interest and lazily asked what happened. I relayed to him of which he called another staff member to go with me and solve the situation he never even apologized about the incident but just told me they have no such rule. The staff lady, however, pulled me on the side and apologized on behalf of one of their staff members who broke the rules and she went straight to the parcel counter to enlighten her about the complaint. (she deserves to be in management) Now from the treatment, I got from the Manager I am well aware that it is the reason Staff members are adamant to mistreat customers because the manager seems to be bored with his job he is just there while his mind is elsewhere.
