Security Gaurd's

I went to Shoprite to do our weekly shopping,i normally start at the cold products and work my way to the other end of the shop,my husband and i took 2 Play energy drinks and opened it and drank it while we are doing our shopping. My husband took a packet of 25's Grandpa and opened it took one out and drank it with the Play and put the opened packet in the trolley,i noticed that a man keep on following us the whole time,i continued with my shopping and eventuality we are done and went to the teller, took out all our groceries out of the trolley so that we can pay. I noticed that the security guards are looking at us and talking, one follow us to the door and said he wants to check our groceries,i said you want to see if we have paid for the 2 opened Play's, he then commented and said and the Grand-Pa's, i took all out and showed it to him and he said but the Grand-pa is still sealed,my husband showed him how he have opened it and i took all the grandpa's out and we have counted it to 24.I noticed that there were 2 security guards at the door the one ready to cuff us.I felt so humiliated and that they just decided that we have ****** something without checking properly.

Hello Jackiedl,

Thank you for taking the time to contact the Shoprite supermarket chain.

We are sorry to hear that you felt offended by our security procedures and would like to assure you that it is not aimed at you personally. The Shoprite chain has, like all retailers, an obligation to stop financial losses incurred through crime such as shoplifting, through various means such as verifying purchases at the exit. This also allows our stores to stem losses through short scanning by cashiers where certain items may not have been rung up.

We apologise for any affront caused to you by this and for the manner in which you were treated by the contracted security personnel. In the interest of good customer service, the details of your experience will be brought to the attention of Divisional Management for investigation. One of our management representatives will be in contact with you.

In conclusion I would like to thank you for the time and effort you have taken to provide us with this valuable feedback.

Kind regards
Devon Currie
